Rooney happy about Mourinho.

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney says he is "excited" about the prospect of working under new manager Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese, who was appointed the new boss at Old Trafford last week, tried to sign Rooney for Chelsea back in 2013 and has remained a long-term admirer of the England skipper.

Mourinho has been getting accustomed to his new surroundings at Carrington while Rooney has been preparing to lead his nation to the European Championship finals in France.

Rooney said on Wednesday: "It's exciting. Jose is one of the best managers in the world.

"He knows the Premier League really well. For myself and the other United players, it's exciting times and I'm looking forward to it."

Rooney, who was named England Player of the Year for 2015 earlier this week, will return for pre-season training with Mourinho in mid-July, ahead of their pre-seaon tour to China.

United's first scheduled games are two International Champions Cup matches against Borussia Dortmund and then Pep Guardiola's Manchester City, before the Community Shield showdown against Premier League champions Leicester in August.
