Axel chase by premier league clubs.

Zenit St Petersburg boss Mircea Lucescu has admitted Axel Witsel wants to leave – but two Premier League clubs face Italian competition.

Everton and Stoke are believed to be the English teams that are interested in the 27-year-old Belgian international, yet both will have a fight on their hands to land his signature with Serie A side Napoli a confirmed suitor.

“He has spoken with the club and he has asked to leave,” Lucescu confirmed to Calciomercato. “He has two offers from Italy and two from England.

“The club placed a high valuation on him because he is an important player, one of international level.

“I know that he has been offered a contract renewal, but it won’t be easy. He’s had important proposals for the last two years; the transfer market is long and has its own logic.

“We are talking about a player who can do well in many teams.”

Witsel signed for Zenit from Benfica for a whopping £34million in 2012, but the Russian club are said to be willing to accept a fee in the region of £28million this summer.
